Karl Gardiner, Business Development Director

Karl gained a BA from York University in 1987 and an MBA from Durham University in 1993. He has over 10 year’s investment banking experience in the City of London covering a range of debt, equity and derivative structures. Immediately prior to joining NStar, Karl spent three years at the regional development agency for the North East of England, One NorthEast leading their SME ‘Access to Finance’ operations. This involved creating and structuring a range of regional investment funds and associated business support and investment readiness projects aimed at stimulating sustainable economic growth within the North East. These funds included equity, debt, mezzanine and micro loan structures financed with a mixture of public and private finance.
Karl has worked extensively with national and regional government, the European Commission, regional development agencies and private sector partners to encourage innovation and help entrepreneurs and SMEs to achieve their full potential. Karl’s knowledge of public and private sources of investment funding (particularly European Regional Development Fund finance) is coupled with extensive knowledge of EC state aid regulations concerning the establishment of investment funds.
